Greensboro District United Methodist Churches,
Picture a family huddled around one heating source in a shack with little to no insulation on a winter day with temperatures easily reaching 50 degrees below zero. See the family with tattered clothing, jackets that fit improperly or no jackets at all. Watch as this family struggles to survive. No this is not a scene from a third world country, but a scene from the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, and the Family is an Oglala Sioux family.
Now I want you to hear the words of John Wesley; “Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can.” Triad Native American UMC has heard this call loud and clear, and is reaching out to the Oglala on the Pine Ridge Reservation through “Project Oglala Hope.” We seek to help these families survive the dangers of winter by supplying them with winter coats, blankets, space heaters and many other winter items.
We ask that you partner with us in this project to do all the good we can. We ask that you allow us to visit your congregation, small groups (UMW, UMM, UMYF…) and tell the story of the Oglala, and speak of their need. To allow us to place donation boxes within your facility to receive these winter items (they will be picked up monthly, or when boxes are full). If you are willing to join us in “Project Oglala Hope” Please contact the persons listed below.
Dietrich Bonheoffer in his book “The Cost of Discipleship” tells us “Christ is the Christ of others, and the Church is not the Church unless it exists for others.” Join us we strive to exist for others through “Project Oglala Hope.”
