The Greensboro District Mission Society was formed to:
1. To help the churches of the Greensboro District discover and implement the mission of the church in the district.
2. To encourage and to give guidance and assistance in the organizing of church schools and congregations; in the adaptation of ministries of downtown and inner-city churches to their changed communities; in the formation of parishes or group ministries; in the development of special ministries as may be determined by the discovery of the mission of the church in any part of the district; and in the purchase of property or the construction of facilities deemed necessary to the mission of the church in the district.
3. To receive funds from the District Mission Apportionment and other sources.
4. To allocate funds for approved projects, as hereinafter determined.
WHO ARE WE
The Executive Committee of the DMS is made up of the District Superintendent, District Missionary Secretary, the District Lay leader, the District President of United Methodist Women and Men, Chair of the District Congregational Development, Volunteers in Mission Coordinator, Associate Lay leader, and several appointed lay persons. Chairpersons of the Work Area on Missions of all local churches in the district and pastors of all churches in the district are ex-officio members.
HOW WE WORK
The DMS meets once a quarter (4 times a year) to receive requests for grants from churches and ministries. These dates will be announced in the District Newsletter and on the District Web site. Churches may receive an application from the District Office or online from our web-site. All applications will be considered and responded too. Usually, our first meeting of the year we will set a budget based on what is still left in our bank account from the previous year and what we expect to get from the conference.
HOW DOES THE MONEY BECOME AVAILABLE?
The money we receive from the Conference is dependent on the churches in the district paying their district asking. The Conference will send us money as the district asking is paid to their office. In other words if churches wait until December to pay than we will get most of our money in December. This is a reason why steady and regular payments to the Conference insure steady and regular money for the district.
